Indian Navy Showcases Power and Precision with Aplomb at Navy Day

On the occasion of Navy Day 2024, the Indian Navy displayed its operational might and prowess through an Operational Demonstration (Op Demo) at Blue Flag Beach, Puri, Odisha on 4th December. The President of India and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Droupadi Murmu, graced the event as the Chief Guest, with Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, hosting the event. The ceremony was also attended by the Governor and Chief Minister of Odisha, Union and state cabinet ministers, senior Central and State Government officials, military dignitaries, and local citizens.
This was the second time the Indian Navy organized such a large-scale event at a location other than a major naval station. The Op Demo showcased participation from naval units with a combined tonnage of 90,000 tons. The weapons and sensors used during the demonstration were capable of neutralizing any threats emanating from the surface, subsurface, or air within a radius of 300 Kms. Over 3,500 personnel were stationed at sea, while 350 personnel coordinated the event onshore for the Op Demo 2024.

The Indian Navy has a historic and strategic bond with Odisha, which has long been known for its maritime heritage. Ancient Odisha was renowned for its extensive maritime connections that played a vital role in its identity and prosperity. The region had a thriving tradition of overseas trade and cultural exchanges across the Bay of Bengal, with merchants and sailors from Odisha embarking on long voyages and forging relationships with distant lands.

The Navy Day 2024 celebrations highlighted the Indian Navy’s indigenous, state-of-the-art technology, further advancing the Government of India’s resolve of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and its commitment to being the ‘Preferred Security Partner.’
